Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this module students should be able to:

  2. 3. You will be able to use personal pronouns correctly.4. You will be able to use regular and irregular verbs in the present, past, and future tenses.
  3. 5. You will be able to use numerals and tell the time. 6. You will be able to use some infinitive structures.
  4. 7. You will be able to use the copula8. You will be able to hold a simple conversation in Irish using the gramatical and syntactical points, above.

Brief description

The module introduces the basic structures of Modern Irish and focuses on the Conamara dialect. Students will reach A2 standard of the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages).

Aims

The module introduces the basic structures of Modern Irish and focuses on the Conamara dialect. Students will reach A2 standard of the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages).

Content

1. Basic sentence structure (syntax).
2. The verb 'to be'; past and future tenses.
3. Regular and irregular verbs: present, past, and future tenses.
4. The noun and adjective.
5. The Irish mutation system.
6. The preposition; use of the most important prepositions, as well as personal forms.
7. The copula and its syntax.

Personal Development and Career planning Workshops will give students the opportunity to discuss language tasks and translations; the package of tasks will enable students to measure their performance and personal development.
Problem solving Responding to technical challenges posed by grammar and individual grammatical tasks; students will aim for grammatical accuracy.
Research skills undertake research in order to reinforce the grammatical rules learned in the workshops.
Subject Specific Skills The grammatical skills developed on this modules are transferable and will be of use to students in a university and workplace setting.
