On successful completion of this module students should be able to:
Understand how the interaction between clinical knowledge and communication skills may lead to more efficient and effective consultations.
Show an understanding of what it means to be a professional and the responsibilities to clients, patients and wider society that this entails.
Demonstrate knowledge of ethical theories and ethical implications within the veterinary field under examination conditions.
Understand the importance of evidence based veterinary medicine and how to ask a clinical question and search for valid evidence.
Be able to demonstrate how module content can be applied to clinical settings and how it integrates with other modules
Principles of Veterinary Practice & Evidence Based Medicine 1 module runs throughout Year 1 and introduces a number of important themes including professionalism, ethics, communication skills and the basic principles of evidence based veterinary medicine. The module develops reflective skills and critical thinking and has a particular focus on the context of the veterinary profession in Wales.
The development of professional skills, professionalism and understanding the value of evidence-based medicine is an essential part of your education, particularly for those intending to pursue careers as practicing Veterinary Surgeons. This module has been designed so that you can both acquire and hone the range of skills which will be essential for your ability to succeed in, and enjoy, your future career. These skills include communication (consultation and presentational skills), team-working, evaluating evidence and clinical reasoning, ethical reasoning and professional attitudes.
