Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this module students should be able to:

  1. Act honestly and with integrity in accordance with legal and regulatory requirements
  2. Comply with legal and regulatory requirements in the provision and funding of legal services
  3. Apply knowledge of the institutions and operation of constitutional law and EU law to develop and advise on options, progress cases and practise in accordance with the law and legal system of England and Wales
  4. Apply knowledge of relevant sources of law to develop and advise on options, progress cases and practise in accordance with the law and legal system of England and Wales
  5. Apply knowledge of the operation of the Human Rights Act 1998 and Equality Act 2010 to develop and advise on options, progress cases and practise in accordance with the law and legal system of England and Wales
  6. Apply knowledge of the operation of the legal system of England and Wales and legal funding to develop and advise on options, progress cases and practise in accordance with the law and legal system of England and Wales ​

Brief description

This module covers the principles and practical rules associated with Professional Conduct, Public and Administrative Law, and the Legal System of England and Wales
Students are expected to draw on and apply knowledge from the following areas of law and practice:
Ethics, professional conduct and regulation
Legal services
Constitutional law and EU law
Public and administrative law
Sources of law
The Human Rights Act 1998 and Equality Act 2010
The legal system of England and Wales.

Content

1. ​The purpose, scope and content of the SRA Principles and Code of Conduct.
2. The Legal System of England and Wales and sources of law.
3. Constitutional and administrative law and EU law.
4. The Human Rights Act 1998 and Equality Act 2010.
5. Regulation: money laundering and financial services.
6. Legal services.
7. Legal funding.
