Teaching Programme at Aberystwyth University
This is a new programme, aimed at early career academics (including PhD researchers, new lecturing staff and Research Staff) and staff supporting students. The programme will develop the teaching skills of those engaged in teaching or training at AU. This will give you a grounding in the good practice of teaching and expand your knowledge and expertise in a range of core teaching areas. The programme is accredited through Advance HE at Associate Fellowship level. Those who complete the programme will become an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (AFHEA).
Induction for the programme will be held on 15th to17th September 2026, the first day of which is compulsory for any of those who wish to be on the September 2026 cohort.

Cohorts
We will be running two Cohorts each academic year, September and January. The timelines for these are as follows:

Entry Requirements and Registration
A requirement of registration on the Teaching Programme is that you are able to state that you will be engaged in teaching at Aberystwyth University in 2026-7, with sufficient contact hours over the duration of the programme to enable peer observation of your teaching and your own reflection on (and developments to) your current teaching practice.
It is a requirement that your application is supported by your HoD, DLT or equivalent.
We require that participants will be carrying out their teaching for Aberystwyth University. This is a stipulation of our accreditation with Advance HE.
Teaching Requirement
The Teaching Programme at Aberystwyth University is a flexible and light touch professional teaching qualification aimed at those who are already engaged in teaching at AU. It is not designed to be a course for those completely new to teaching. We recommend that participants are engaged in sufficient hours of teaching during the year they undertake the course. Participants need to be engaged in enough teaching hours to have three peer observations of their teaching and able to reflect on their practice, and integrate suggestions from these and from their CPD back into their teaching. This requirement is in line with other institutions in the sector which run comparable programmes leading to the award of an AFHEA. This is also in line with our accreditation with Advance HE, and aligned to the Professional Standards Framework (PSF).
