Sofia is a graduate from the University of East Anglia and holds an LLM in International Law from the University of Hull. In 2000 she worked for the international humanitarian organisation, Medecins Sans Frontieres in Eritrea, North East Africa. It was thanks to this experience that she chose to undertake a Masters and subsequently a Phd in the area of Public International Law and Human Rights. In 2001, thanks to a scholarship obtained at UEA, Sofia experienced six months of Law School at the South Texas College of Law in Houston, Texas. In the summer of 2005 Sofia was an intern for a UNICEF human rights programme on Child Protection and Gender & Harmful Practices in New York for two months. Sofia was a post-graduate tutor at the University of Hull for four years. She has been a lecturer at Aberystwyth since September 2006.
