At the Inter-collegiate Eisteddfod held at Bangor this year, two students from the sciences came top in the main literary awards.  Gruffudd Antur – a second year student at the Institute for Mathematics and Physics won the chair competition, and Elliw Haf Pritchard, a first year Psychology student won the crown competition.

More than 25 people competed in the Chair competition and Professor Peredur Lynch from Bangor University had the honour of judging.  This was the second year in succession for Gruffudd, who is originally from Llanuwchllyn to win the chair. The topic was "Gobaith" - Hope, and Gruffudd drew inspiration from Scotland’s efforts to secure independence.

The winner of the Eisteddfod crown - Elliw – is from Groeslon, Caernarfon.  She was awarded the prize for literature based on the topic 'Connecting.'  In her adjudication, Dr Angharad Price Bangor, University stated, "All 24 who had competed had produced work of a high standard, but the victor’s work was head and shoulders above the rest."
