What do you do for work?
I was sponsored through Aberystwyth by the Royal Navy sp upon graduation I returned to the service. I spent the next nine years at sea, commanding two ships and travelling the world. In 2005 I left and went into the City, where I have been a headhunter in the Maritime & Shipping sector. Since 2015 I have been a partner at the UK's leading international executive search firm, Odgers, where I also Chair the Global Transport & Logistics Practice.
What was the biggest highlight of studying at Aberystwyth?
The quality of the teaching is superb and it is a stunning location in which to study.

Fun, friendship, and fresh air!
What advice would you give to future students?
Embrace everything that Aber has to offer - study, sports or social - and 'kick the bar' as many times as you can each week!
Paul Butterworth graduated from Aber in 1996 with an LLB. He was a Lieutenant Commander in the Royal Navy before leaving in 2005 to take up a career in international recruitment and is now a Partner at Odgers Berndtson, one of the top six global headhunters and is based in London.
