Peter Roberts

Peter graduated in 1988 with a LLB in Law.

What do you remember most about your time at Aber?

It was the friendliest place, I was so sad to leave.  It took twenty years before I could go back.  And the quality of teaching in my degree (LLB) was excellent, I now recognise.

What are you doing now career-wise and how has your Aberystwyth Degree helped?

I have been a solicitor for 30 years, a career which was made on the back of my degree.   Early on I specialised in energy law and I have worked worldwide. Today  I am kicking back a bit.  I work as a commercial director of a US oil company, and I am also a visiting professor of law at Austral University in Buenos Aires.  I have also written seven energy law textbooks.   I have lectured at several universities, but I never forget Penglais.

What advice would you have for a student doing your course now?

Make the very most of it !  Indulge yourself and take the great opportunity to study so many different areas of law.  You will never get such a chance again.  And remember that the friends you make at Aber will stand you in good stead for the rest of your life.  If I could do it all again I would, in a heartbeat.
