Welsh Language Challenge Booklet
This resource was created jointly with young people from mid Wales, who worked with researchers from Aberystwyth University's Department of Education. A young people's advisory group and several research groups were involved in the design process, ensuring that their ideas and experiences were central to it.
The main aim of the project was to give young people an opportunity to think about their relationship with the Welsh language and identify ways in which they can use more of their Welsh in ways that are meaningful to them.
The project set out to:
- Give young people more of a voice by involving them directly in the research work.
- Help young people develop an interest in research and build new skills.
- Collect the opinions and experiences of young people about the Welsh language today, and think about ideas to help more people use it in the future.
- Create a useful resource with young people, for pupils, schools and others.
- Contribute to the Welsh Government's goal of reaching one million Welsh speakers by 2050.
- Support the vision of a more equal Wales, with a strong culture and a lively Welsh language.
Ultimately, the intention of this resource is to ensure that young people's ideas about using more Welsh are heard and seen. By sharing these ideas, young people can support each other to use the Welsh language in ways that are relevant and fun for them.
