Abby Monk completed her BA in Medieval and Early Modern History, and her MA in Medieval Britain and Europe at the Department of History and Welsh History, Aberyswtwyth University. Abby submitted her PhD thesis in 2023 which focused on the perception of exiles in the Anglo-Norman realm through the writing of the twelfth century monastic Orderic Vitalis. Abby's research interests include collective exiled memory, the relationships between the Norman Kingdom of Sicily and the Byzantine Empire, and the reception of exiles in the Islamic World of the twelfth and thirteenth centuries. Additionally, Abby has an interest in gender history and political culture.

In 2023 Abby won Postgraduate Teacher of the Year at the Teaching, Learning & Student Experience Awards.
