Library Services closes at 16:30 on Tuesday 23rd December 2025 and reopens 08:30 on Friday 2nd January 2026. Level D of the Hugh Owen Library is open 24/7 throughout this time.

Temporary closure of Hugh Owen Library toilets Friday 02 January 2026 09:30-19:30

Due to essential maintenance of the campus water supply, toilets, washing facilities, and drinking water will be unavailable in the Hugh Owen Library from 09:30-19:30 Fri 02 Jan 2026. Please bring your own bottled drinking water to the library with you.

Portable toilets will be available behind the library – see photo. We apologise for the temporary inconvenience.

Hugh Owen Library opening hours up till the Christmas and New Year holidays

  • The Hugh Owen Library is open 08:30-22:00 Mon-Sun until Sat 13 Dec (Level D open 24/7)
  • Sun 14 Dec - Mon 22 Dec Level D is open 24/7 and Levels E & F open 08:30-20:00 
  • Tues 23 Dec Level D is open 24/7 and Levels E & F open 08:30-16:30 
  • Wed 24 Dec-Thurs 01 Jan 2026 Level D is open 24/7 
  • Level D is always open 24/7 (Aber Card needed to enter and exit)

While Library Services closes at 16:30 on Tuesday 23rd December 2025 and reopens at 08:30 on Friday 2nd January 2026, Level D of the Hugh Owen Library remains open 24/7 during the holidays, providing access to computers, printers, study spaces and vending. Hugh Owen Library: No Aber Card, No Access Mon 05 - Fri 23 January 2026

Due to high demand on library spaces, use of the Hugh Owen Library during the January exam period (from Mon 05 - Fri 23 January) is restricted to Aber Card holders only during the day. You need your Aber card to enter as well as exit the library. All 3 floors of the Hugh Owen Library are open 24/7 during the exam period.

Changes to study room booking system in the Hugh Owen Library

A change is underway to the study room booking system at Hugh Owen Library. Keen users will have noticed that we have removed the old booking screens / joan boards from outside the rooms.

We will provide details of the new, more convenient way for you to manage your bookings as soon as possible.
