How will Jisc use my data? 

Jisc uses data from the digital discovery tool to deliver their service, support users, and provide meaningful insights while protecting privacy. Personal details (such as name, email, and role) are collected mainly to create accounts, tailor the assessment experience, and manage access to the platform.  

Users’ responses to assessment questions are used to generate their individual feedback reports but are also grouped and anonymised to produce institutional and sector-level insights, enabling organisations to understand digital capability trends and target support effectively. Jisc collects a minimal amount of data, keeps it for a limited time, and uses it securely on behalf of your university to improve their service. Full details of their privacy and data collection policy can be found here. 

How will Jisc protect my data? 

The Digital Discovery Tool uses industry-standard cloud infrastructure, strong governance, and regular testing to protect data, with controlled access and clear processes for security, backups, and incident management. How will Aberystwyth University use my data? 

The university will be using anonymised data collected from the tool for reporting purposes on a large scale. For example, this may include data around how a specific department’s staff or a cohort (year group) of students have responded.  

The purpose of these reports will be to determine to best way we as a university can support the development of our staff and students. By understanding how confident they feel about their use of digital technologies we can ensure that provision can be targeted to areas where users feel they need more support and guidance.
