New counselling qualification option for Psychology students

Psychology students at Aberystwyth University can now gain a nationally recognised counselling qualification alongside their degree, following accreditation by the UK’s leading counselling awarding body.

The accreditation by the Counselling and Psychotherapy Central Awarding Body (CPCAB) means that students enrolling on the Psychology with Counselling degree from the current academic year will have the opportunity to achieve the CPCAB Level 3 Certificate in Counselling Studies alongside their undergraduate studies.

The qualification equips students with practical counselling skills, helping them prepare for careers in counselling, support work and related fields, or providing a route into further professional training and postgraduate study.

Dr Alison Mackiewicz, Senior Lecturer in Psychology at Aberystwyth University, said:

“We are delighted to have received this accreditation from CPCAB. Being able to gain a nationally recognised counselling qualification alongside their degree offers our students a valuable foundation for careers in counselling, support work and related professions.”
