Profile
Matthew graduated from Aberystwyth University with a first class honours MPhys degree and was awarded the Prof. Lance Thomas award for excellence in 2016.
He went on to obtain a PhD in Physics in June of 2025 whilst studying part time and working full time as laboratory technician for the SPARC II and latterly the ENFYS (ExoMars) projects. His thesis ‘Purification and Separation of Coal derived Carbon Nano-Dots with Post-synthesis Tuneable Electronic Properties’ was concerned with obtaining fluorescent nanoparticles from low grade coals in a facile process which shows great promise to be scalable for industrial production.
Matthew is currently the technician for the research labs offering support to researchers and students (PhD and Under-grad), where he specialises in Raman, UV-Vis, Photoluminescence and low-temperature spectroscopy.
