Skills Award

In collaboration with Undeb Aber, we're introducing the Skills Award which recognises and celebrates everything you do beyond your course - whether it’s part-time work, volunteering in the community or through clubs and societies. This is your chance to celebrate your growth, recognise the skills you’ve developed, and support you with showcasing your skills to future employers.

To achieve the Skills Award, you will need to:

  • Log a minimum of 60 hours of either paid or voluntary work
  • Identify 8 skills you have developed during these experiences
  • Attend three training and development sessions delivered by the Careers and Employability Service
  • Complete two 150-word reflective pieces on your skills development through your work experience and your attendance of Careers and Employability Service sessions

How to access the award

The Award can be accessed through Undeb Aber’s website. Please note that you will need to register for a skills and volunteering profile in order to begin the process of achieving the Skills Award.

How to bulk log hours

To achieve the Skills Award, you will need to complete a minimum of 60 hours of work experience which can include both paid and voluntary work. You will have the opportunity to bulk log hours which may be helpful especially if you are backlogging hours. 

In order to bulk log your hours you will need to:

  • Log into your Skills and Volunteering Profile on the Undeb Aber’s website
  • Select ‘log hours’
  • Choose the type of role most applicable to you (e.g., paid roles, club and society, volunteers)
  • Add the role, giving a title and the time span that you have been in the position
  • Once this role has been added, if you click on the blue title, two new options will appear to either “add skill” and “log hours”
  • Within the ‘log hours’ option, you can backdate hours if needed. You can also select a wide time span and include hours worked instead of logging individual days
  • Please note, you can only log up to 24 hours in one instance.

What sessions count towards training and development

As part of the Skills Award, you will need to attend a minimum of three Careers and Employability Service training and development sessions. These sessions must be extracurricular (not occurring during timetabled sessions) and can include the following:

  • Careers chats
  • Workshops
  • Events

How to access the reflective logs

Once you have logged your hours and skills, your next step will be to write two 150-word reflective logs about the skills you have developed through the Careers and Employability Service sessions and also during your work experience. 

Please note, the reflective logs will only become visible once you have met the minimum requirements of 60 hours and 8 skills.

To access the reflective logs, return to your Skills and Volunteering profile.

Under ‘Skills Award’ you should see three bullet points. One of these being “Please complete the submission | Llenwch y ffurflen hon os gwelwch yn dda” - please select this option

As the website can timeout, we recommend that you complete your reflective logs in a word document and copy this into the available free answer text boxes.
