Aberystwyth University has many reasons to celebrate this Reunion Weekend, 150 years since the University opened its doors and 130 years of the Old Students Association. Furthermore, several academic departments are also celebrating notable milestones and plan to hold their own departmental events.

Friday 23rd June

Welcome Reception
Iris de Freitas Room, Hugh Owen Library
19:00-21:00 – Join us for a Reception overlooking the campus with drinks, canapes and a 150th anniversary cake. Several speakers will welcome you back to Aberystwyth, and it’s a chance to look at the recently refurbished areas of the library.

 

Saturday 24th June

Lifelong Learning Event – Ornithology

10:30-11:15 - Experience what’s on offer in our Lifelong Learning department with tutor David Anning (outside location is weather dependent).

11:00-11:45 – A special tour of the National Library for alumni, with a focus on the Welsh Women’s Peace Petition.

A Century (and more) of Studying Wales!

12:30-14:00 - An event evaluating Aberystwyth University's contribution to studying and understanding Wales over a century and more. Session organised by the Centre for Welsh Politics and Society, Aberystwyth University.

Archive Scanning Station
Students’ Union Picture House
14:00-17:00 - Bring along your pictures and mementos where Julie Archer and colleagues from our University Archive will be on hand to scan them to form part of the University’s history. We may even accept willing donations!

Pantycelyn Tour and Exhibitions

15:30-17:00 - Take a tour around the newly refurbished Pantycelyn Halls of Residence.

Lifelong Learning Event – Art History

17:00-17:45 - Try something new in this interactive session looking up close at some of the items from the collection with tutor Helena Anderson. This session also presents the chance to look inside this iconic historic building.

150th Anniversary Dinner
Medrus
18:30-21:30 - A special dinner to celebrate 150 years of Aberystwyth University, with several guest speakers. A fantastic chance to meet up with old friends, as well as connect with other alumni and current members of staff. Prior booking required.

Party at the Pier!
The Brasserie, Royal Pier
21:00-01:00 – FREE Party for alumni and staff with guest DJ Eddy Scissorhands, taking place in the Brasserie.

 

Sunday 25th June

Kick the Bar!

9:30-10:30 - Wake up with the sea breeze and join us for one of the University’s oldest traditions – a walk along the prom to kick the bar! A fantastic photo opportunity to remember the weekend.

Old College Project Update
The Cambria
10:30-11:30 & 11:45-12:45 - Hear from key figures in the Old College Project about the work that’s already taken place, and what’s next for this iconic building. Two sessions are taking place due to high interest.

Health Education Centre Talk

13:00-14:00 - Look around the new department and hear from current staff and students about the new nursing degrees on offer.

14:00-15:00 - A chance to hear from senior lecturer Dr Sophie Regnault and tour our new Veterinary Education Centre here on Penglais campus, made possible by Alumni support.
