Robes

All graduating students are required to wear the correct academic dress at their degree ceremony. 

Ede & Ravenscroft are the official robe makers for the University.

The Ede & Ravenscroft booking site will open on Wednesday 4 June.

The deadline for ordering your robes is Tuesday 1 July 2025 at 17.00.

How to order your academic dress

On the Ede & Ravenscroft Graduation website, enter ‘Aberystwyth University’ in the Institution Details box and select the ceremony you have registered for.

You will be asked to provide:

  • your award details (see table below for guidance)
  • your height, chest size and head/hat size (guidance on how to measure these can be found on the Ede & Ravenscroft website).

Hire costs

Hire costs for 2025 ceremonies are:

Undergraduate Certificates and Diplomas £44
Undergraduate Bachelors £48
Postgraduate Certificates and Diplomas £48
Masters, Integrated Masters and MPhil £56
Doctorate £60

Details of extended hire and purchase options will be available through the Ede & Ravenscroft webpages when the site is live.

In exceptional circumstances, provision will be made for late student gown orders on the day of the ceremony. Please note there will be a surcharge for hiring on the day.

Before the Ceremony

The robes you order will be available in the robing room in the Gerallt Jones Studio, Parry Williams Building (Department of Theatre, Film and Television Studies), prior to the ceremonies and should be returned there afterwards.

Hired robes must be returned to the Gerallt Jones Studio on the day of your graduation.

The University is in a commercial relationship with Ede & Ravenscroft and receives commission based on the number of gowns ordered. This allows us to run the graduation ceremonies without ticketing costs.
