HENA
Supporting Mid Wales Through Healthcare Education
As part of Aberystwyth University’s ongoing commitment to strengthening the local healthcare workforce and addressing the needs of communities across mid Wales, we welcomed our first cohort of nursing students in September 2022. This new programme marks a significant step forward for healthcare in the Mid-Wales locality, and we are proud to extend the University’s teaching into such a vital and impactful area.
Introducing HENA – A Community Partnership
Patients, carers, service users, and local community members are part of an exciting initiative: the Healthcare Education Network Aberystwyth (HENA) who work collaboratively with us in partnership to develop Healthcare Education programmes at Aberystwyth University.
Shaping the Future of Nursing
Today’s nurses need to be confident, compassionate, and equipped with the critical thinking skills needed to provide outstanding care in a variety of settings. Hearing real stories and learning from those with direct experience of healthcare—whether as patients, carers, or family members—adds immense value to our students’ education. HENA offers a way for the community to contribute to this journey, helping to shape the next generation of nurses.
How You Can Get Involved
As a member of HENA, you’ll have the opportunity to take part in a range of activities such as:
• Joining student interview panels
• Participating in learning scenarios
• Sharing your personal experiences in classroom sessions
You can choose how much or how little you’d like to be involved, and you’re free to step away from the network at any time. Member participation is completely free. All HENA events offer refreshments and travelling expenses can be re-imbursed by arrangement.
