Scott has been employed by the Welsh Ambulance Services University NHS Trust (WASUT) for 8 years following a 24-year career in the Military, serving with the Royal Engineers where he retired with the rank of Warrant Officer Class 1 (WO1). Scott has served in locations around the globe and has completed tours in Afghanistan, Iraq, Poland, Kuwait, Oman, Falkland Islands, Canada, Germany, Cyprus and the UK, including a period where Scott instructed within the Royal School of Military Engineering (RSME), where he held the posts of Quartermaster Sergeant Instructor (QMSI) and Senior Military Instructor (SMI). Scott was awarded the MBE in the Queen’s birthday honours list in 2006 for his devoted and unwavering service in Afghanistan in 2005.
Scott decided to re-train as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) as part of his resettlement from the military, following tours of Afghanistan and Iraq, where dealing with casualties gave him a sense of pride in being able to help his colleagues. Scott started working with WASUT in January 2017.
Within WASUT Scott has several roles that cover both Operational (Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and Trauma Risk Management Practitioner (TRiM practitioner) and Training (Operational Driving Instructor and Internal Quality Assurance) that provides him with a broad spectrum of experiences that ensure he maintains standards within the Trust and ensures that he keeps up to date on a plethora of subject areas. He is currently undertaking an EMT to Paramedic BSc conversion course through Swansea University and is due to complete in early 2026.
Scott feels extremely fortunate to be able to hold the role of honorary lecturer for mental health within the healthcare education department.
