Esther joined IBERS as Institute Stakeholder and Public Engagment Manager in September 2025, moving from the University's Department of Research, Business and Innovation (RBI) where she had worked since 2019 as a part-time Research Communications Officer. Before then, she worked ful-time as the University's Head of Communications and Public Affairs (2016-2019). Esther also has extensive experience as a journalist and a producer of news, current affairs and documentary programmes for BBC Cymru Wales and other broadcasters.

Esther began her career in journalism and was a trainee reporter for her local newspaper, the Cambrian News, (1983–1985) before moving to the BBC as a News Trainee. After working at Broadcasting House and Television Centre in London, she returned to Wales and worked for over twenty years in a range of roles at BBC Cymru Wales's Department of News and Current Affairs, including as a reporter, producer of live television and radio news programmes, election coverage co-ordinator, presenter and website producer. In her first job at Aberystwyth University (2006-2008), Esther worked as a Lecturer in the Department of Theatre, Film and Television Studies where she coordinated a Master's degree in Factual Radio Production as well as teaching undergraduate modules. Between 2016 and 2019, she was the University's Head of Communication responsible for leading the organisation's internal and external communication activities. Esther has also worked freelance as a Communications Consultant and Media Producer, has set up and run her own business, and has a BSc Econ (Hons) degree in Law and Politics from Cardiff University.

Responsibilities

Esther's main responsibilities in her current role include: 

  • Developing and managing stakeholder relationships across academia, industry, government, and the public to support IBERS' strategic goals.
  • Coordinating public engagement activities, including events, outreach, and communications that promote IBERS research and impact.
  • Supporting collaborative projects by facilitating connections between researchers and external partners.
  • Enhancing the visibility of IBERS research through media, digital platforms, and public-facing materials.
  • Contributing to research communications strategy, drawing on experience in journalism and public affairs.
