Dr Rees is Lecturer in Veterinary Science at Aberystwyth University, Junior Vice President of the British Veterinary Association and Veterinary Development Manager at Mentera. She leads the award-winning Veterinary Prescribing Champions Network on behalf of Arwain DGC, a Welsh Government-funded national program aimed at tackling AMR in ruminants. Qualifying as a vet from the University of Liverpool in 2009, she worked in farm and equine practice in West Wales and New Zealand before taking up a role at Bristol Vet School as Teaching Fellow and undertaking a PhD researching prescription veterinary medicine use by UK dairy farmers.  Gwen’s work leading the Veterinary Prescribing Champions Network led to her receiving the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons’ Impact Award 2021 and the project won the 2023 UK HSA Antibiotic Guardian Award for Prescribing and Stewardship. Gwen has published extensively and regularly speaks internationally at academic conferences on the subject of antimicrobial stewardship. Gwen sits on the Board of the BVA, RUMA Agri, RUMA CA&E and sits on the bovine TB Partnership in England. She is a Trustee of the Animal Welfare Foundation, Fellow of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine, sits on the Editorial Board of Veterinary Record Case Reports and sits on Welsh Government’s TB Technical Advisory Group and the AMR in Animal Health Delivery Group.  Gwen’s research interests include human behaviour, complex health interventions, antimicrobial stewardship and qualitative research methodologies.
