Research at IBERS creates new knowledge that drives innovation through applied research, education and training for the benefit of society, nationally and globally. With our partners in government and industry, IBERS has a long-term commitment to the transfer of knowledge to help build a Knowledge-Based Economy, creating high-value employment in agri-food, energy, the environment and human and animal health, nutrition and welfare.

Knowledge Exchange

The award-winning1 knowledge exchange platforms at IBERS are key components of our research themes. Amongst others, IBERS hosts: The BEACON2 biorefining centre; Farming Futures network3, AgriFood Training Partnership4 and the InnoLife consortium5.

  1. Awards include: BEACON wins top European award, The Times Higher Education Award for Outstanding Contribution to Innovation and Technology 2013. BBSRC Excellence With Impact Award 2011, Queens Anniversary Prize 2009.
  2. The BEACON biorefining centre develops products for industry including pharmaceuticals, chemicals, fuels and cosmetics. Led by Aberystwyth University in collaboration with partners at Bangor and Swansea Universities, BEACON is backed with £10.6 million from the European Regional Development Fund through the Welsh Government.
  3. The IBERS Postgraduate Distance Learning Programmes increases skills through professional development by providing access to cutting edge research findings and clear overviews of topics relevant to pasture-based agriculture. Our training comprises workshops and post graduate distance learning modules to gain credits towards a range of postgraduate qualifications.
  4. IBERS’ Innolife Centre has been selected by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) as its Knowledge and Innovation Community (KIC) for EIT Health.
