Profile

Most of my past work was related to research or teaching in the area of Telematics. We have been involved in telematic applications operating over both the ISDN digital telephony networks and over the Internet. Our work was often influenced by our location in a very rural area. More recently, I have been working with our Intelligent Robotics research groups. I spent the summer of 2007 working with (the late) Prof Dave Barnes in the area of space robotics. I spent time in 2008 and 2009 working Mark Neal and Fred Labrosse on projects involving land and marine based autonomous robotics. I also spend a large amount of time working with our systems support group. Together with Alun Jones and Sandy Spence, our group runs all the networking and computing services operated inside IMPACS. Most of my contribution goes into the specification, development and deployment of new services and into the provision of our Unix based services and network infrastructure.

Lecturer

Much of my teaching is related to computer data communications/networking, programming in languages such as C and use of Linux/Unix systems.  I also present modules that reinforce students' mathematical abilities or introduce some aspects of theoretical computer science.

Responsibilities

Infrastructure Co-ordinator for the Faculty of Business and Physical Sciences.
