Fernando Castellano-Banuls

Graduate in English Studies by the University of Valencia, I have a MA in Comparative Literature and Critical Theories (University of Birmingham) and a Master's Degree in Education (PGCE equivalent), with a specialisation in foreign language acquisition. I am also a Instituto Cervantes DELE examiner and Associate Fellow of Higher Education.

Prior to joining Aberystwyth, I taught Spanish at the University of Birmingham, Warwickshire College Group and Coventry University. 

I am currently pursuing PhD studies at the University of Glasgow, researching gender in Spanish non mimetic literature, particularly science fiction and fantasy. My PhD research investigates how ideas of gender percolated in science fiction and fantasy texts, situates them in a specific sociocultural, feminist moment and explores how they challenged (or supported) its coetaneous gender order. As a literary scholar, I am interested in contemporary Spanish literature, comparative non-mimetic fiction and its crossings with Gender Studies, feminism and queer theory.
