It is with great sadness that we report the death of Dr Aileen Smith, Senior Lecturer at the Institute of Biological, Environmental and Rural Sciences. Dr Smith died on Friday 11 December aged 56.
A graduate of Glasgow University, Dr Smith gained an MSc at the University of Natal in 1978 and a PhD at Birmingham University in 1980 before joining Aberystwyth University as a Post-Doctoral Research Assistant in Botany and Microbiology in October 1980. She was appointed to the post of Lecturer in 1983 and Senior Lecturer in 1994.
The funeral service will take place at Aberystwyth Crematorium on Friday 18 December at 2.15p.m. This will be followed by a reception for friends and family at Borth Golf Club. Family flowers only. All donations to Macmillan Nurses or other cancer charities.
