Giles Polglase, a member of staff at Aberystwyth University has scooped the David Davies Prize for Human Resource Management 2011 (MBA) for outstanding academic performance and will today be graduating with a Master’s Degree in Business Administration.

Giles is the Assistant Coordinator for the Centre for Development of Staff and Academic Practice (CDSAP) at the University and began his MBA in 2008.  He completed his MBA whilst working for the University as part of the Aberystwyth University Professional Development Scheme which encourages staff to participate in their professional development by following modules and degree courses whilst employed.

Giles comments: “This is by far the best academic course I have completed.  I was able to instantly apply the theory learnt on the first day of the course into my working practices and, in turn, relate the practice to theory.  I’m delighted to receive the award and join the alumni community of Aberystwyth University.”

In addition to his MBA, Giles also holds a BSc in Social Policy from the University of Bath, a PGCE from the University of Strathclyde and a Postgraduate Diploma in Social Administration from Oxford University.  Prior to joining the staff of Aberystwyth University in 2008, Giles ran his own business in Pontrhydfendigaid.

Nick Perdikis, Director of the School of Management and Business Studies commented: “I congratulate Giles on his impressive achievement.  A number of staff undertake to study an MBA whilst employed with the University and I’m pleased that they are able to put what they learn into practice and that the University benefits.  I wish all the graduates from the Department well and hope that they succeed in developing fruitful and rewarding careers.”
