Sister Act on show at Arts Centre

25 July 2014

This year’s summer musical production, Sister Act, will begin its five week run at Aberystwyth Arts Centre this evening and will show until Saturday 30 August.

Following on from the huge success of the 2012 summer production of ‘Hairspray’ and the 2013 production of ‘Little Shop of Horrors’, the same creative team are reuniting for Sister Act.

The show tells the story of disco diva Deloris Van Cartier and how, after inadvertently witnessing a murder, she is placed in protective custody and placed in the local convent.

The stage musical is based on the 1992 smash hit movie of the same name which starred Whoopi Goldberg as Deloris and Maggi Smith as Mother Superior. The film was nominated for two Golden Globes and was a huge box office hit.

A stage musical of Sister Act was first performed in the USA in 2006, opening in the West End in 2009 before heading to Broadway and then worldwide.  In London it was nominated for four Oliver Awards and has been seen by over a million theatregoers.

Aberystwyth Arts Centre is the first ever independent theatre to obtain permission to present Sister Act which shows at the Arts Centre from 25 July – 30 August.

Evening shows are from Tuesday to Saturday at 7.30pm each week, with matinees on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays at 2.30pm.
