Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals accreditation renewed

23 June 2015

Aberystwyth University has successfully renewed its accredited status with the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals (CILIP).

The accreditation by CILIP, the UK’s largest professional accrediting body in this field, relates to courses offered and delivered by the University’s Department of Information Studies.

The accreditation covers the five-yearly review for the Department’s long established courses and its postgraduate schemes.

The accredited qualifications enable graduates to work towards Chartered status within the Institute.

The Department of Information Studies, which forms part of the Institute of Management, Law and Information Studies, offers undergraduate and postgraduate qualifications in Library Studies, Archive Administration, Digital Information Studies and International Archives, Records and Information Management.

Director of the Institute of Management, Law and Information Studies Professor Andy Henley said: “I am delighted that the Department of Information Studies has secured a further full 5 year accreditation for all its courses from the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals.

“This professional body is the largest accrediting body in the subject area, and CILIP accreditation is one of the most significant accreditations that the Institute holds across its course portfolio. Information Studies at Aberystwyth celebrates 30 years in 2016 of providing distance learning degree-level education at bachelors and masters levels for professionals in the Library and Information sector, and this reaccreditation cements our reputation as one of the leading providers of such education in the UK.”

The accreditation was awarded following a visit by CILIP assessors at Aberystwyth University in late May.
