Aberystwyth Students’ Union (AberSU) and Aberystwyth University Commercial Services are happy to announce positive changes to the way student sport is funded and delivered for 2017-18.
The Sporty Card is being removed, meaning students will no longer have to pay £49 to access Students' Union Sports Clubs and/or access cheaper University facility pricing. Funding for BUCS sports activities,- previously generated from Sporty Card income - is being ring fenced. This means all affiliation and entry fees, transport costs and facility hire will be met by the Students’ Union. Individual club members will only need to pay a minimal fee for insurance.
Meanwhile, the Sports Centre will make 1,500 hours of free facility hire available for student clubs to train. The Students’ Union will agree the specific allocation of this time with individual clubs. Any demand for facility hire by clubs in excess of this will be provided at heavily discounted rates.
