New students who hold a Student visa

Before being able to complete registration all students on a student visa must:

  • Upload visa and arrival documents using the links that will be sent to them in automatic emails
  • Arrange to meet with the UKVI Compliance Office staff in person

Students joining us in September will be invited to book an appointment to come and attend the document check. Students joining us at other times of the year will be notified on how to arrange a meeting.

At the meeting we will  conduct document checks and verify you live in/near Aberystwyth.

You will need to bring the following:

  • Passport
  • Copy of the English language qualification named on your CAS
  • Copy of the academic qualifications named on your CAS
  • Copy of your ATAS certificate (where applicable)
  • Students NOT in university accommodation need to bring proof of address in the form of a signed contract with a private provider.

Please Note: Your registration may be paused if you are unable to supply proof that you live in or within an hour’s travel of Aberystwyth

Below are some common questions asked by new students:

What documents do I need to upload before arrival?

Student visa holders need to upload the following via links that are sent to them in an email from dccstaff@aber.ac.uk

Do not use CAS Shield for this purpose.

  • Copy of your flight or ferry details. This could be a booking confirmation or ticket that shows the date you enter the UK and it should also show your name.
  • Share code.

I have been asked to upload a share code, what is that?

If your Student visa has been fully processed and issued to you please visit View and prove your immigration status: get a share code - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk) to request a share code, then upload a photo/screenshot of the code via the link that was sent to you.

When you recieved confirmation of your visa from the UKVI you will have been given instructions on how to set up a UKVI account. You must do this before you travel. Once you have set up your account you will able to generate a share code. The code can then be used by the UKVI compliance team to verify your visa and to retain a copy on file. Please note that the the UKVI account gives you 3 options to choose from, the UKVI compliance team cannot use Right to Work or Right to Rent codes. You will need to choose option 3 'other' when selecting the type of code

I will not arrive by my course start date, what do I do?

Students can sometimes face delays in receiving a visa decision, this is usual and we are aware that delays can occur.

If you know you will not arrive by your course start date, you must contact us to let us know so that we can advise you and we can note you are delayed. Some additional time is allowed to arrive late due to delays beyond a student's control. The final deadline to register will be noted on your CAS. In most cases it will not be possible to allow you to register after this date so it is important that you keep us updated.

I no longer wish to take up my place at Aberystwyth University, what do i do?

If you no longer want to take up  your place, email us to notify us at copstaff@aber.ac.uk

  • If you have received a CAS but have not recieved a visa decision yet, we will withdraw the CAS that was issued to you. This means that the CAS cannot be used to make a visa application. You are advised to withdraw any application you have made.
  • If you have used your CAS and have recieved a visa decision, you must send us the visa outcome letter/email notification. If a visa has been granted we will need to report that you will not be enrolling on your course and that the university is withdrawing sponsorship of the visa. This visa will be invalid.

I have recieved a visa refusal, what do I do?

If your visa application has been refused, you must send us a copy of the visa decision letter. The University is required to report all visa refusals.
