4.16 CertHE Healthcare Education

Applicable to all students starting from September 2023

Progression rules

1. The module pass mark is 40% and students are required to pass all component assessments in all modules in order to qualify for the award.

Retrieval of failure

2. Students will be required to resit and/or resubmit the failed component(s) of the theory modules in each semester. Students will have TWO opportunities to resit a failed theory module or component. The first opportunity will be an in-year resit. If the in-year resit is failed, funding is suspended for one year and students will have one final opportunity to resit externally within 12 months. After an external resit a student will re-join the main cohort during the next academic session.

3. There is only ONE resit opportunity for the Professional Practice component at the end of the placement. Students who are required to resit the Professional Practice component and want to progress into Part time nursing will do so at the next opportunity (i.e. following year).

4. Students are only permitted to retake failed assessments.

Exit awards

5. There are no fallback awards.

Change of Employment Status

6. Student employment is terminated by the employer during the programme:

i) If a student’s employment is terminated by the employer during the programme, the student would be expected to take temporary withdrawal at that point. If the student was to secure new employment within the terms of HEIW’s contract, and in line with their new line manager’s agreement, they could return to their studies at a later time.

ii) Students who were unable to secure employment within the terms of HEIW’s contract would be permanently withdrawn from the programme.

7. Student job role is changed during the programme:

i) If the new role (same employer) was patient/service-user facing, and they could be supported in practice by a Practice Supervisor and Practice Assessor, students will be permitted to continue with the programme.

ii) If the new role (same employer) was not patient/service facing, then they must either take temporary withdrawal of studies or permanently withdraw from the programme, as such role means that they wouldn’t be able to meet the requirements of the practice-based core module, which is required to complete the programme.

iii) If the new role was with a different employer, then again as long as the new role is patient/service user facing then they could continue with the programme, subject to their new employer’s agreement for study leave to continue, for release of study time.
