James Strong is a Research Software Engineer at Aberystwyth University with a PhD in Computer Science. His work focuses on the development and application of computational methods for scientific research, with particular interests in machine learning, bio-inspired artificial intelligence, animal navigation and biological data analysis.
As a Research Software Engineer, he works with researchers to design, develop and improve research software, computational workflows and data-analysis methods. His work includes Python development, machine learning, reproducible research pipelines and the application of software engineering practices to research problems.
His research interests include approaches inspired by biological systems and the use of machine learning to understand complex biological and longitudinal datasets.
Alongside research software development, he contributes to teaching and outreach activities, including training in Python, artificial intelligence and machine learning for Aberystwyth University AIB.
