Wales Herald Visits Department
The Department of Welsh was honoured by the visit of Dr Michael Siddons, whose coming to Aberystwyth co-incided with the publication of the fourth and latest volume in his series, The Development of Welsh Heraldry. Dr Siddons is Wales Herald of Arms Extraordinary, and an expert on Welsh heraldry and genealogy.
From the very first, Dr Siddons has been extremely supportive of one of the department’s on-going AHRC-funded research projects, namely the creation of an electronic version of Peter C. Bartrum’s Welsh Genealogies A.D. 300-1500. He was pleased to see that the work is now being recorded for posterity and will be more accessible that ever before.
Dr Siddons himself worked with Dr Bartrum on the genealogies for years, and the project has learned a great deal from studying the correspondence between them since 1993. It is Dr Siddons who will be continuing with Dr Bartrum’s work, researching to the next generation after 1500.
