Dr Sara Elin Roberts specialises in the law, literature and culture of Wales and the March from the twelfth to the fifteenth centuries. She has particular interest in questions of gender, governance, power and identity in post-Conquest Wales and the March, and is an acknowledged expert on the manuscript culture that lay behind the extraordinary dissemination of medieval Welsh legal texts between the thirteenth and the fifteenth centuries. She has published extensively on medieval law and society in Wales and the March, including her award-winning monograph The Legal Triads of Medieval Wales (Cardiff, 2007; revised ed., 2011). Her most recent monograph is The Growth of Law in Medieval Wales c.1100–c.1500 (Boydell, 2022), which was awarded the Hywel Dda Prize in 2023. She also has considerable expertise in medieval Welsh poetry and was one of the editors of the new edition of the work of Dafydd ap Gwilym.
