Inspiring the next generation

"I left feeling inspired and excited to start my own career.”

Elen is a first year student studying Cymraeg Proffesiynol at Aberystwyth University.

This degree scheme is a standard qualification for prospective employers who are looking for competent bilingual employees.

Aber Fund helped to fund an event for Welsh-medium students looking to start a career in journalism, with alumna of Aberystwyth University, Bethan Williams, who is Training and Development Manager of BBC Wales News.

Elen took part in the event: “The level of detail that Bethan gave was fantastic. She gave us a detailed account of her career path which emphasised how important it is to take every opportunity and to make the most of it. I left feeling inspired and excited to start my own career.”

“It was great to have an insight into journalism that’s conducted at the highest possible level. Even if you weren’t specifically interested in that field, the tips we received about entering any workplace were invaluable.”

What had Elen learnt from the experience? “I’ve learnt not to set any barriers for myself. If I work hard enough then anything can be achieved.”
