Black History Month Event 2025

16 October 2025, 1-3 pm

Join us at Ty Trafod to celebrate Jasmine Violet's artwork, Sugar Coated.

There will be a showing of Jasmine's film, SugarCoated, which is an exploration of the connections between the North Wales slate industry, the Pennant family of Penrhyn Estate in Gwynedd and sugar plantations worked by enslaved people in Jamaica. There will also be an interview with Jasmine to understand the creative process behind the work, and a Q&A for audience members who have their own questions

Sugar Coated is a part of Perspective(s) which is a collaboration between the Arts Council of Wales and Amgueddfa Cymru - Museum Wales, which seeks to bring about a step change in how the visual arts and heritage sector reflects the cultural and ethnic diversity of our society. The project is supported by the Welsh Government as part of a collective effort to meet the culture and heritage goals of the Anti-racist Wales Action Plan.
