Complete the Race Equality Charter Survey

As part of our ongoing commitment to addressing racial inequality and fostering a more equal, diverse, and inclusive environment at Aberystwyth University, we invite all our students and staff to participate in our Race Equality Charter survey.

Complete the Race Equality Charter Survey

The survey will be available to staff on 5 February for a three-week period. Then, it will open for students on 3 March for another three weeks. Completing the survey should take no more than 10-15 minutes of your time.

We encourage all staff and students, regardless of your race or ethnicity, to take part. Your input will significantly contribute to our understanding of race equality at Aberystwyth University. The more members of our community participate, the stronger the foundation is to create a more inclusive environment for people of all ethnicities.

Let’s make a difference!

Professor Angela Hatton, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research, Knowledge Exchange and Innovation) and Chair of the Race Equality Charter Self-Assessment Team, stated,

“We want to hear your views on studying and working at Aberystwyth University and whether you think there is anything we can do to eradicate racial discrimination and advance race equality.”

Survey Format

The survey prompts you to rate and describe your experiences, offering valuable insights that will help us understand, plan, and implement improvements in our approach and services for all staff and students.

The survey is structured around three crucial themes:

  • Sense of Belonging
  • Speaking up and Communicating
  • Culture and Climate

Each theme includes multiple-choice questions about your experiences at Aberystwyth University. Within each theme, there is at least one opportunity to provide additional comments in a free-text box if you wish.

The Demographics section includes questions about your identity, and aggregated responses will help us compare experiences across different student and staff groups.

What else are we doing?

We are committed to the principles of Advance HE’s Race Equality Charter, integral to our broader Race Action plan. This Charter provides a framework for addressing racial inequality, with ongoing initiatives in progress. The next step involves significant data analysis to identify and address race-specific issues, goals, and priorities across the entire University, making this survey a crucial component of our efforts.

The survey is a meaningful way in which our community can share personal experiences and perspectives, providing opportunities to explore issues and concerns in more detail – we want to keep the conversation going.

In March there will be several listening sessions, specifically for minority ethnic staff and students. These are intended to offer a safe and informal space to share thoughts and experiences. The outcomes from these sessions, combined with survey results, will lay the groundwork for a series of community roadshows, focusing on race-related matters and promoting an anti-racist university environment. Look out for invitations to engage later in the academic year.

At the survey's conclusion, you'll find a link to a separate form where you can express interest in contributing to focus groups following the survey. These groups will help interpret survey results and provide a platform for community members to share their experiences.

Looking out for your Welfare
