Showcasing sustainable solutions for climate challenges in Brussels
09 March 2026
Scientists from our Biorefining and Bioconversion research group have been in Brussels showcasing IBERS’ innovative work on transforming biomass into nutritional supplements for people or animals and into biochar for low‑carbon steel production.
Dr David Bryant and Dr David Warren‑Walker joined networking events bringing together more than 50 representatives including policymakers, research funders, regional offices, universities, industry and embassies, all focused on the clean energy transition.
They met businesses working in biotechnology, hydrogen and energy, took part in a roundtable on European funding opportunities, and attended the Welsh Government’s annual St David’s Day reception in Brussels.
Building these connections helps highlight how IBERS and other Welsh researchers collaborate with industry to tackle major sustainability challenges — and opens the door to future partnerships.
Diolch yn fawr to Welsh Higher Education Brussels and the Wales Innovation Network for organising such a valuable visit.
