Coriolan/us – A one-day symposium
Monday 26 November 2012
9.15 am to 4.00 pm
Main Hall, Department of International Politics, Aberystwyth University
This one-day symposium is a unique opportunity to hear those involved with the innovative and exciting production of Coriolan/us by National Theatre Wales, and those who have written on it, speak about the production. Described by The Observer as “an outstanding production that makes several big points about the theatre today…an unforgettable political and personal drama: rich, tough and resonant,” and by The Financial Times as “gripping,” “a production that brilliantly conveys the confusion, unpredictability and opportunism of civil strife,” this was a inspiring promenade performance that took place in an aircraft hanger on a military airfield west of Cardiff during the summer. The symposium will include recorded extracts of the performance for those who didn’t have the chance to see it.
The Symposium is organized by Aberystwyth University’s post-disciplinary Performance and Politics Research Group, a group founded in 2007. We are interested in all convergences of performance, politics and critical and cultural theory. All are welcome to the symposium —undergraduate and postgraduate students, staff and members of the public. There is no registration fee.
