Every year, the United Nations convenes a forum to discuss issues of global interest around the governance, use and application of Internet technology. The Seventh Annual United Nations Internet Governance Forum (UNIGF) will be held in Baku, Azerbaijan on 6-9 November 2012 and the Department of International Politics at Aberystwyth University will be acting as a ‘remote hub’ for this meeting.

On Wednesday, November 7th from 10am to 2:30pm, we will be broadcasting the meeting live in the Main Hall of the InterPol building. This will allow our local audience to patch into any of the 10 concurrent workshop or discussion sessions held in Baku. Not only will we be able to observe these sessions, we will also be able to pose our own questions to the panels through live video transmission.

This represents a unique opportunity to participate in this very important UN forum. For anyone who has an interest in cyber law, Internet governance, network neutrality, intellectual property, cyber security, online development practices and human rights, this meeting will offer an opportunity to interact with our colleagues around the globe, inject a local perspective to important debates and also to strengthen relations between those of us in Aberystwyth who are working in similar spaces.

This is an open and free event and we encourage participation from not only staff and students of the University but from the broader community as well. There is no need to book in advance but if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact Madeline Carr.
