2012 - Professor Norman Davies - Is the European Union a Vanishing Kingdom?

Norman Davies retired in 1996 from the School of Slavonic Studies, University of London, but remains extremely active in writing and public debate. At present, he is Professor at the Jagiellonian University, Cracow, an Honorary Fellow of St Antony's College, University of Oxford, and a life member of Clare Hall and Peterhouse at the University of Cambridge. He is a Fellow of the British Academy.

In his early career, Professor Davies specialized on the history of Poland, but subsequently has made decisive contributions to our understanding both of British history and that of Europe as a whole. His latest book, which has been greeted with critical acclaim, is Vanished Kingdoms: The History of Half-Forgotten Europe (2011).

The 2012 DDMI Annual Lecture took place on Thursday 1 November 2012, in the Old Hall Lecture Theatre of the Old College at Aberystwyth University. Professor Davies’ lecture was entitled ‘Is the European Union a Vanishing Kingdom?’
