"Trust-building and the Nuclear Future" - Networking Symposium, 7-8 September 2010

01 September 2010

Department of International Politics, Aberystwyth University, 7-8 September 2010

The project The Challenges to Trust-building in Nuclear Worlds; will host the "Trust-buidling and the Nuclear Future" networking symposium.

The aim of the symposium is to bring together early career researchers, established academics and practitioners working in the fields of trust research and/or nuclear politics. The meeting will provide a forum for interaction between all three groups with a particular view to facilitating professional links for the early career researchers. It is also envisaged that the workshop will further contribute to enhancing collaboration between researchers across various social scientific disciplines such as international relations, psychology, and sociology.

The event will consist of four sessions, two of which will feature presentations by early career researchers and two of which will gather some of the leading scholars in the fields of trust research and nuclear weapons. These sessions will be devoted to the study of trust, regional nuclear dynamics, and the future of the international nuclear non-proliferation regime. A roundtable on trust and the global nuclear future will close the symposium. Each of the sessions will begin with short presentations followed by discussion.

The project is led by Professor Nicholas Wheeler and funded by the RCUK's programme 'Global Uncertainties: Security for All in a Changing World.' This workshop is the first one in a series of three which will take place over the course of the next three years. The event is free and lunch will be provided on the second day. If you are interested in attending, please register by e-mailing Jan Ruzicka.
