Call for Papers

The Department of Law and Criminology, Aberystwyth University, will be hosting the Second International Conference on Just Transition and Environmental Justice on Thursday 10th to Friday 11th September 2026.

On the evening of Thursday 10th September 2026, there will be a formal dinner.

We warmly invite individuals to attend and participate in critical and topical discussions on emerging developments in the just transition discourse.

The theme of the conference is Emerging Developments & Implications for a Just Transition.

The Conference focuses on emerging developments in transition discourse, including the geopolitics of decarbonisation and the growing tensions surrounding differing interpretations of its costs and benefits. The Conference will explore strategies for advancing equity and environmental justice concerns within global policy and governance frameworks and examine the implications of evolving global political alignments for energy-sector divestment and the broader transition agenda. In addition, it will explore the potential of multi-stakeholder dialogue to address resistance to decarbonisation, as well as issues relating to access to climate finance for equitable transition initiatives, particularly in light of the outcomes of the UNFCCC Conference of the Parties (COP30) held in November–December 2025.

This year’s conference invites key stakeholders and leading experts from diverse communities of practice and professional backgrounds, including academia, civil society organisations, industry, government institutions, regulatory bodies, and international organisations. Participants will deliberate on pathways for implementing equitable and environmentally sustainable transition strategies in a post-oil future, while critically reflecting on developments since 2015 and current global trends shaping transition pathways. Participants are welcome from any country to enjoy the scholarly, social and cultural experience of the Conference.
