Student Welcome Centre

10 June 2009

Aberystwyth University's new Student Welcome Centre, which provides a comprehensive range of support services for students, has been formally opened by the University's Vice-Chancellor Professor Noel Lloyd.

Representing an investment of £1.5m, the new centre brings together key student services which were previously provided at various locations on campus and in the town.

The Student Fees Office and Student Support Services are based at the Centre, as is the University’s Admissions and Recruitment office. Together they offer advice and support on finance, disability, learning support, health and medical issues, undergraduate and postgraduate courses and information on international study opportunities. It also provides a focal point for international students studying at Aberystwyth.

Speaking at the opening, Professor Lloyd said:
“This new centre reflects the University’s commitment to providing a welcoming environment and effective support that will enable students to make the most of their time at university. Its location, at the heart of the Penglais campus, emphasises the importance of student support in the university and means that all of these services can be accessed with greater ease then ever before.”

The Student Welcome Centre is also the latest building to be upgraded as part of the University’s strategy to improve environmental performance. Originally built in the 1960s and known as Cledwyn Spur, it has been refurbished with energy saving features that include new external thermal insulation, draught lobbies, double glazing and energy efficient lighting.
