“Etty”, a one-woman play performed by Susan Stein will be the latest event held by the David Davies Memorial Institute (DDMI).

The performance will take place on Tuesday, 3rd February at 5.30pm in the Main Hall, International Politics building.

Described by a previous review as “More than just a performance – it was a shared experience”, Stein’s play is an adaptation of Etty Hillesum’s diaries and letters portraying the experience of a young Jewish woman during the Nazi occupation of Holland in 1941.

The performance encompasses theatrical and educational experiences designed to challenge participants to re-examine assumptions about the Holocaust.

Issues such as resistance, human rights, social justice and individual responsibility in extreme circumstances are all touched upon by the play.

The play, which has previously been performed in black-box theatres, studios, libraries, schools and major theatres around the world, is directed by Austine Pendleton.

A discussion with Stein will follow the performance.
