2018/19 Additional Postgraduate Costs:
Courses/Modules & Costs
Please note that additional costs are associated with some courses that are not covered by the tuition fees.
In some cases, where permissible, students might choose to embark on fieldwork as part of their Dissertation Projects (though this is likely to be over the summer and the students themselves are responsible for meeting the costs of this kind of research). It is important that this does not contravene University regulations and where applicable, UKVI Tier 4 visa regulations or US Federal Direct Loan regulations.
Please see below for course-specific costs:
Course/Module |
Comment |
---|---|
Department of International Politics: Semester 2, GWM/ IPM1620 ‘Devolution and National Assembly for Wales’ |
Includes a practical workshop session with political actors held in Cardiff at the National Assembly for Wales. If the module is available (depending on student numbers), the costs are borne either by a Departmental subsidy or student contributions or a combination of both. |
Department of Information Studies: P120 Digital Curation P121 Digital Information Services P192 MA Archive Administration P194 MA Information and Library Studies |
Location: London Dates: mid to late January Additional costs: £400 per student (depending on where students choose to stay, where they are travelling from etc. as some travel from home and some may stay with friends/family). Travel and accommodation arrangements are left to the student for this reason. |
Institute of Biological, Environmental & Rural Sciences: C190 MRes Biosciences: |
Students are required to attend a conference relevant to their field of research. This will often be cost-free to the student as Learned Societies often cover costs for postgrad members who attend their meetings but where this is not the case IBERS funds according to the formula: First £200 paid by IBERS, then half of anything (reasonable) above this. The conference is decided in consultation with the supervisor and there will almost always be one available that works out free or no more than £100 payable by the student. |
Institute of Biological, Environmental & Earth Sciences: relevant research projects in agricultural or biological science |
It may be necessary to charge supplementary fees up to a maximum of £7,500 for each year of study for research in the Institute of Biological, Environmental & Rural Sciences involving large animals or significant amounts of consumable reagents, some of which can be inherently very costly. Whether a supplementary charge is levied and the extent of that charge will depend on the nature of the research being undertaken. Applicants will be advised of any such charges at the earliest stage in the offer process. |
