Our commitment to high standards: Agent Quality Framework (AQF)

Aberystwyth University is proud to maintain the highest standards of agent management and student support. We have formally signed the Agent Quality Framework (AQF) pledge, a collaborative initiative developed by BUILA, Universities UK International, the British Council, and UKCISA.

The AQF is a sector-wide initiative designed to:

  • Empower student choice and support informed decision-making

  • Ensure robust governance and high standards of professionalism among agents

  • Promote ethical agent practices, professional knowledge, and competency

  • Enhance transparency and accountability throughout the recruitment process

Our commitment to the AQF is reflected in our ongoing review of representative performance, incorporating student feedback to ensure our standards remain exemplary. All of our representatives are expected to follow the National Code of Ethical Practice for Education Agents, and many have completed the British Council’s UK Certified Counsellor Training, ensuring their knowledge of the UK education system, visa requirements, and compliance practices is current.

At Aberystwyth University, we are dedicated to providing every international student with an excellent experience, from application through to enrolment, and to ensuring you feel welcomed and fully supported throughout your journey.

What is an agent and what do they do?

An agent, agency, or representative is a counselling service that provides advice to students considering overseas study. While applicants are not required to use an agent when applying to the University, some may choose to do so. Agents work in partnership with universities to help applicants identify the most suitable course and institution. They typically represent a range of universities in the UK and other international destinations, and can offer recommendations based on your career goals, academic background, and budget for studying abroad.

Why use an agent?

Agents can be a valuable source of information, particularly if you have not travelled overseas before. Aberystwyth University offers dedicated training to all contracted agents to ensure they can provide applicants with accurate and relevant guidance about studying at Aberystwyth University. Agents can support you throughout the entire application journey, from researching universities and course options, to submitting your application, to assisting with visa processes and beyond.

How to choose an agent

You should refer to the British Council website for accredited and approved agents, there is also advice from the British Council on how to choose your agent.

What should I expect from an agent?

An agent should:

  • Offer guidance and information about the Aberystwyth University, including our wide range of courses and scholarships
  • Assist in identifying the most suitable university and programme for your individual goals
  • Provide advice on our entry requirements, application procedures, and deadlines
  • Submit your application to Aberystwyth University and monitor its progress
  • Support with your visa application, accommodation, and other preparations for studying in the UK
  • Liaise with the university on your behalf, where necessary

If your agent does not meet these expectations, you should inform your university via our agent complaints procedure.
