Heledd Wyn Hardy is a Welsh bilingual filmmaker, visual storyteller and practice-based researcher whose work explores ecology, women’s narratives, cultural memory, food systems and community futures through collaborative moving-image practice.
Working across film, participatory arts, heritage and socially engaged research, her interdisciplinary practice brings together communities, landscapes and lived experience through visual storytelling rooted in Wales and connected to wider international conversations around sustainability, identity and belonging.
Her films and creative projects explore embodied knowledge, mythology, language, memory, ecology and place through documentary, experimental film, installation and participatory cultural practice, often foregrounding underrepresented voices and intergenerational experience.
Heledd holds an MPhil in Film and is currently developing doctoral research exploring microbial ecologies, fermentation cultures, food heritage and participatory ecological storytelling through interdisciplinary moving-image practice. Drawing on film, sound and socially engaged methodologies, her work investigates invisible life systems, ancestral knowledge, multispecies relationships and community resilience within rural and ecological contexts.
Recent projects include Future Wales fellowship work exploring climate resilience, local food systems and community-led ecological futures through creative practice; Ceredigion Placemaking film initiatives; NHS wellbeing and creativity projects including Culture Cwtch; National Trust collaborations such as Petticoats of Power; and Setting the Record Straight, exploring women in Welsh political history and representation.
Alongside her creative practice, Heledd has extensive experience in higher education, creative mentorship and public engagement. She has lectured in film and media, developed bilingual learning resources, and supported emerging filmmakers and interdisciplinary practitioners through teaching, facilitation and collaborative project development.
Heledd is a member of the Centre for Material Thinking and the Social Innovation Research Group. Her work combines artistic practice, research, teaching and cultural leadership, with a particular interest in how storytelling can strengthen ecological awareness, collective memory and community resilience.
