Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this module students should be able to:

Demostrate a firm grounding in the secondary source material and on-going debates surrounding the social and economic developments in Europe during the Cold War era.

Show an understanding of the value of an inter-disciplinary approach to a study of the past.

Reflect upon and critically analyse secondary and primary sources.

Collect, collate and analyse historical evidence and produce both oral and written arguments.

Work independently (assessed) and collaboratively (not assessed).

Produce work in a professional manner and demonstrate skills appropriate to the study of history.

Brief description

This module introduces students to Europe's economic and social history during the Cold War. It aims to provide a strong foundation for the study of modern social and economic history (in a comparative and transnational context) in subsequent years and will also broaden the provision of modern European history available to students
