Where are you now?

I am currently studying for a Marketing Masters degree at Aberystwyth University after completing my BSc in Tourism Management.

How did you get there?

Through hard work in my undergraduate degree, especially in my third year. The support I received from the Tourism lecturers was also invaluable.  I received a good grade in my Dissertation, with the help of my Dissertation supervisor Dr Carl Cater and this encouraged me to continue into the study of Marketing at the Masters level. I was fortunate enough to receive an Access to Masters scholarship which is part funded by the European Social Fund.

Where are you going?

My dream job would be to work with the Welsh Tourism board to promote Wales, I caught the Aber-bug and don’t want to leave! I’m hoping to find a tourism marketing job around the Aberystwyth area, or in North Wales. I hope to gain some experience before heading into the workplace.

What, if anything, would you have done differently during your time at Aberystwyth to help you better prepare for your career/life upon graduation?

I would have attempted to make more of the work placement opportunities offered by the University. Possibly I would have taken part in the Year in Employment Scheme (YES). Having said that I would not have changed anything on the academic side of things.

What advice would you give to a student doing your subject at university now?

Put in as much effort as you can, work hard, don’t get stressed, and go and speak to the lecturers, they are all very friendly and will always help where they can! Enjoy your time here, you will soon miss it when it’s over!
